Dental specialists complete two to six extra years of training after dental school and usually work on referral from a general dentist, although most accept patients who call directly. Orthodontists straighten teeth with braces and clear aligners; endodontists handle root canals; periodontists treat gum disease and place implants; oral and maxillofacial surgeons extract wisdom teeth, place implants and do jaw surgery, often under IV sedation; prosthodontists rebuild smiles with crowns, bridges and dentures; denture centers focus on full and partial dentures, relines and repairs. Sedation and hospital dentists serve anxious patients and people with special needs, while TMJ and sleep-apnea dentists make oral appliances for jaw pain and snoring.

I had an outstanding experience at Chatham Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery in Savannah from the moment I walked through the door. I was greeted warmly by the front desk staff, and the office itself was beautiful, comfortable, and meticulously maintained. The welcoming waiting area even offered complimentary coffee and water, which was a thoughtful touch. The 3D scan of my mouth that Irma, the x-ray tech/radiographer, performed was impressive. I had never experienced this type of imaging before of my mouth. It was far superior to the uncomfortable dental x-rays Iβve had in the past. Irma was professional, personable, and efficient, making the entire process quick and comfortable. Dr. Hinchey was equally impressive. He is warm, friendly, professional, and exceptionally knowledgeable. He carefully reviewed my scans, explained exactly what they revealed, discussed his diagnosis, and outlined a detailed treatment plan. One thing that really stood out to me was when he said heβs a perfectionist and wonβt move from one step to the next until everything is exactly right. As a fellow perfectionist, that gave me tremendous confidence that I had chosen the right oral surgeon. I was p

The entire process from consult to day of surgery was great! The front desk gals are both really sweet and the waiting room is warm and comfortable. Wendy- the anesthesiologist came out and introduced herself and answered all of our questions. Dr. Benton also was really thorough at our pre-op consultation and again after surgery. Each staff member treated patients like they were family and I highly recommend this office!

I had my wisdom teeth removed by Dr. Hinchey and honestly couldnβt have had a better experience. I was a pretty difficult case, but it was a super successful surgery. He was so incredibly kind, thoughtful, and reassuring the whole time. This was my first surgery, but I went into it feeling calm. The staff were just as great, friendly and welcoming from start to finish. Very grateful for the care I received and would absolutely recommend Dr. Hinchey.

As someone whoβs never been put under anesthesia before and has dealt with dental anxiety , I was extremely nervous. Dr. Benton and his team did a wonderful job getting me out of my head and making the procedure as comfortable as possible. Thank you everyone who made this experience a lot easier!

My twins both just got their wisdom teeth removedβ¦ hands down THE BEST experience EVER!!! Shout out to the front desk team (Shay, Veronica, Heidi) for a smooth check in process!!! Dr. Hinchey is absolutely phenomenal! He made the twins feel so welcome and safe!! His clinical team, Ebony, Mo, and Wendy went above and beyond to be nurturing, reassuring and kind. The twins were really nervous at the beginningβ¦ when they woke up they both said βI was tripping for nothingββ¦ one twin even said βDr Hinchey ateβ ( in teenage language that means he did extremely well at this skill)! Overall if I could give 100 stars I would. Iβm grateful to this office for the thorough care they rendered today.
